3.2 Plan, structure and sequence learning programs

AITSL Standard 3.2 Example 1

I plan and implement well-structured learning and lesson sequences that engage students an promote learning. Below is an example of three lesson plans based on the Kindergarten Guidelines for Mathematics: Measurement & Geometry 4.4: use the appropriate language of measurement to describe, compare and order: length, size, mass, height.

In the first lesson the learning objective was: can measure how long objects are using hands. The students used cut out hands to lay down length ways along objects, then counted them to find out how many hands long the object was.

They then recorded it on their sheet using number cards to assist them, see work sample in Figure 1.

In the second lesson the learning objective was: can measure how long objects are using unifix. After a demonstration on how to measure using unifix the students joined unifix together to measure how long their footprint was, then how long the giant's footprint was, see Figure 2.

In the third lesson the learning objective was: can identify which strips of paper are longer and shorter. After a mat session in which we compared objects and identified which one was shorter and longer, I showed the students strips of coloured paper, one shorter and one longer, the students identify which one was shorter and longer and glue the strips into the correct section of worksheet, see Figure 3.

AITSL Standard 3.2 Example 2

I plan and implement well-structured learning and lesson sequences that engage students an promote learning. Below is an example of three lesson plans based on the Kindergarten Guidelines for Mathematics: Patterns & Algebra 4.4: copy and create simple two part patterns.

In the first lesson the students created two part patterns using different colours by coping the colour patterns provided, then attempted to create their own ABAB pattern, see Figure 4.

In the second lesson the students created two part patterns using different shapes by coping the shape pattern, then attempted to create their own ABAB pattern, see Figure 5.

In the third lesson the students copied ABAB patterns using natural objects, then made their own. The students photographed their work, uploaded it to Pic Collage, added a background and their name, see Figure 6.

AITSL Standard 3.2 Example 3

I plan and implement well-structured learning and lesson sequences that engage students an promote learning. Below is an example of three lesson plans based on the Kindergarten Guidelines for Health & Physical Education 3.2: demonstrate correct fundamental movement skills, such as running, hopping, jumping, catching, kicking, balancing, striking, dodging, galloping and leaping. The learning objective for the three lessons was can demonstrate correct Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) of hopping and jumping.

In the first lesson, see Figure7, the students participated in a relay in which the students hopped and jumped twice through, then completed the relay by leaping, jumping like frogs, running and galloping.

In the second lesson, see Figure 8, the students participated in an obstacle course focused on jumping and hopping, including jumping with two feet together through 5 hula hoops, completing a hop scotch, jumping with two feet together along fish and jumping on a trampoline.

In the third lesson, see Figure 9, the student played scarecrows in which they participated in games where they had to hop, skip and jump forward on two feet to move around.
